Unemployment, Payroll and Estimated Taxes:
IRS Form 940 is the Employer's Annual Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Tax Return. Employers use it to report and pay their annual Federal Unemployment Tax.
Form 944, or the Employer's Annual Federal Tax Return, is an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax form that certain small businesses use to report and pay federal income, Social Security, and Medicare taxes once per year. Most employers file Form 941 quarterly, but Form 944 is designed to reduce the paperwork burden for the smallest employers.
Form 941, the Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return, is an IRS form used by most businesses to report and pay federal income tax, Social Security tax, and Medicare tax withheld from employee wages. Employers are responsible for withholding these taxes from their employees and paying a matching portion of Social Security and Medicare taxes.
Individuals and sole proprietors use Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals, to figure and pay quarterly estimated taxes. Corporations use Form 1120-W.
